About 9 a.m. the Battery was ordered to the front and took position on the left of the Brigade on a hill, but did not fire; changed position several times by order of general Negley. About noon while in this position the Battery was attacked by the enemy and the entire Battery opened upon him, temporarily checking him, and sustaining a loss in the Battery of 4 men wounded, 8 horses killed and wounded, and expended 240 rounds of ammunition, 75 rounds canister and balance shell. The Battery was ordered from this position to Rossville by General Negley, and encamped there for the night.
