Ontario's first newspaper, Upper CanadaGazette, or American Oracle was published inNiagara-on-the-Lake by Louis Roy, King'sPrinter to John Graves Simcoe,founding Lieutenant Governor of UpperCanada. The first edition of four pagesappeared April 18, 1793. On this 200thanniversary, the Ontario CommunityNewspapers Association erected this plaqueto commemorate the introduction of thenewspaper for public communication andcommunity service in Ontario.June 9, 1993
