This oldest building on the square was built 1815-1817 by Thomas T. Maury, cousin of Matthew Fontaine Maury, "Pathfinder of the Seas," and nephew of Abram Maury, Franklin's founder. It was housed Franklin's first bank, "Doctors' Shops," other businesses, and law offices.
