Colonel Nicholas Merryman Bosley, builder, 1810, awarded silver tankard "by the hand of Lafayette" for best cultivated Maryland farm, 1824. Also home of John Merryman, early importer, 1848, of registered Hereford cattle, still, 1967, bred here. His imprisonment, 1861, led to Chief Justice Taney's masterful "Ex-Parte Merryman."
