Inscription
Named for Charles W. Christmas, first county surveyor of Hennepin County, elected in 1852, who platted the original town site of Minneapolis for John H. Stevens and Franklin Steele. This lake and Lake Minnetonka now occupy what in pre-glacial times was part of the channel of the Mississippi River near its junction with the pre-glacial Minnesota River.

| Location Description | The Christmas Lake Historical Marker is located within a 16-acre former Roadside Parking Area along Minn. Hwy. 7 in Shorewood. The RPA, which was built and added on to from 1937 to 1941, occupied both sides of the highway by design. That design is attributed to Arthur R. Nichols, designer of some of Minnesota's finest rustic roadside sites. |
