This monument was erected in 1887 to honor Daniel Leasure, who was an American Soldier that served in the Union Army as a Colonel and Brigade Commander during the American Civil War. Mr. Leasure attended Greersburg Academy across the street from here from 1838 to 1840. Later he went to Medical School in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Leasure was Colonel of the Western Theater IX Corps of the 100th Regiment, known as Roundheads. At the Battle of Fredericksburg, he was in command of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division in the IX Corps. He was the Brigade Commander during the Seige of Vicksburg and Blue Springs. He returned to command the 100th Pennsylvania in the Seige of Knoxville.
