Built in 1917

From 1917 through 1929, this building was the St. Louis dealership for Moon automobiles. In later years, the dealership included a building across the alley, which faced Washington Ave.

The Joseph W. Moon Buggy Co., commenced manufacturing automobiles in 1905, at its plant at Main and Douglas Streets in St. Louis. All Moon autos were built at that location, until production ceased in 1929. The Moons were well built, attractive looking, mid-priced cars, which most commonly were powered by Continental, 6 cylinder motors. 1925 was the peak year for Moon, when 13,000 were built.

From 1925, through 1928, a subsidiary of Moon Motor Car Co. manufactured the Diana (Greek goddess of the moon), a light, luxury car. In 1929 and 1930 the Windsor was built and in 1929, Moon produced the Ruxton, a front wheel drive, luxury car of sensationally, racy design.

Production of Moons, Dianas, Windsors and Ruxtons ended in a dramatic struggle over control of the company, between competing boards of directors and Moon Motor Co.'s affairs were finally settled in court, decades later.
