Named in honor of Jim Jones whose love for the American River and fervor to protect its fisheries and flow levels greatly enhanced the river and parkway. When this bridge was no longer needed for mining activities, Jim fought to save it so that it could provide a recreational link across the river for the enjoyment of Parkway visitors. The bridge was named "Jim's Bridge" by action of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors in August 1989.
