Nous nous souvenons
Saluons le courage et
la détermination qu'eurent
les sudcôtois suite à l'invasion
dévastatrice de 1759
En effet, lors de la conquête, 998 bâtiments
et de nombreures embarcations furent incendiés
de Kamoureska à Cap-Saint-Ignace. Sept personnes
furent tuies, cinq blessées et quinze furent
faites prisonnières dont six femmes et cinq enfants.
La dévastation fut presque totale.
Après s'etre réfugiées dans les bois un hiver durant,
les bonnes gens de ce coin de pays revinrent
conatruine à nouvcau le patrimoine dans le respect
de leux langue et de leues coutumes
Ce sort ces évinements
qui inspirirent le sujet du
célèbre roman de
Phillippe Aubert de Gaspé
"Les Anciens Canadiens"

We remember
Let us salute
the courage and determination
of the Southwest
following the devastating
invasion of 1759
Indeed, during the conquest, 998 buildings
and numerous boats were burned from
Kamoureska to Cap-Saint-Ignace.
Seven people were killed, five wounded and
fifteen were taken prisoner including
six



women and five children.
The devastation was almost total.
After having taken refuge in the woods
for a winter, the good people of this part
of the country came back to their heritage,
again respecting their language and their customs.
This fate, these events
inspired the subject of
the famous novel by
Philippe Aubert de Gaspé
"The Canadians of Old"
