— Milwaukee Braves, 1953-1962 —
A fierce competitor with an intimidating fastball, Buhl was a member of the "Big Three" on the Milwaukee Braves' pitching staff, along with Warren Spahn and Lew Burdette. Went 109-72 with a 3.27 ERA during parts of 10 seasons with the Braves, including back-to-back seasons with 18 wins from 1956-57. Helped Milwaukee win pennants in 1957 and 1958 and the World Series in '57. Selected to the NL All-Star Team in 1960. Finished in the top 10 among NL pitchers in ERA six times during his tenure with the Braves. His .621 winning percentage during his first eight seasons ranked third-best among NL pitchers during that time period, trailing teammates Spahn (.646) and Burdette (.623). Served as a paratrooper in the Korean War prior to pitching in the Major Leagues.HM Number | HM2MLN |
