This monument and a memorial woods are set aside to forever preserve the memory of the 7900 Washington County World War II veterans, 228 of whom gave their lives for the good of their country.

Dedicated this 11th day of November, 2004.

Historical Note: Located adjacent to the Appalachian Trail 4.5 miles southwest of this site, the original Washington County World War II veterans memorial is a 40-acre hemlock "memorial forest" dedicated April 21, 1945.
